Health check
A relaxed chat about your health, your results, and some practical things you can do to improve them.
What we look at together
Everything we do is simple, quick, and completely non-intrusive. Here's what a typical health check includes:
Understanding Your Health
Health is about more than a single number. I'll help you understand your blood pressure and BMI, assess your risk of heart attack or stroke, and check your strength and balance. Where available, we can also look at recent cholesterol and blood sugar results from your GP or NHS Health Check. I'll explain what your results mean, how they compare with recognised guidelines and what they may tell us about your health. No single measurement tells the whole story. BMI, for example, doesn't tell us everything about your health or fitness. Looking at your results together, alongside your lifestyle, can help identify areas worth focusing on and practical steps you can take to improve your health.
Blood pressure
A quick, painless check using a simple cuff around your arm. It takes about a minute, but your reading can tell us a lot about your cardiovascular health. Blood pressure naturally changes throughout the day and can be affected by things like stress, activity, caffeine and even how the measurement is taken. I'll help you understand what your numbers mean, how they compare with commonly used guidelines, what normal fluctuations can look like, and when a reading may be worth paying closer attention to.
Strength and Balance
We'll use a few simple, gentle tests to get a better idea of your current strength, balance and mobility. Nothing complicated or strenuous — just easy movements that can show us how comfortably and confidently you manage everyday activities. I'll explain what the results mean, how they compare with expected levels for your age, and where small improvements could help you stay active, independent and confident on your feet.
Lifestyle Review
Your everyday habits can have a big influence on how you feel and how your health changes over time. We'll take a look at things such as your physical activity, sleep, diet, alcohol, smoking and other lifestyle factors to understand what's working well and where there may be room for improvement. There's no judgement and no expectation to change everything at once. I'll help you understand how these factors can affect your health, highlight the changes that could make the biggest difference for you, and suggest realistic steps you can take to support your health, independence and wellbeing.
A few things I want you to know
- You don't need to prepare anything — just show up as you are.
- Nothing is compulsory. If you don't want to do a particular check, that's completely fine.
- I'm not a doctor and I won't diagnose anything — but I will always tell you if I think you should speak to your GP.
- Everything we discuss is completely confidential.
